MANUFACTURE OF ORIENTED MOLDED PRODUCT OF BLEND OF LYOTROPIC POLYSACCHARIDE/POLYMER CAPABLE OF THERMAL AGGLOMERATION

PURPOSE: To obtain the subjected shaped product with high tensile strength, elongation, modulus, etc., by making a spinnable dope containing a lyotropic polysaccharide and a thermally consolidatable polymer in the form of a common solvent solution followed by orienting the dope and removing the solvent. CONSTITUTION: This shaped product is obtained by the following procedure: first, a spinnable dope is prepared by agitating a solution consisting of a common solvent and fiber-forming polymers composed of (A) 55-80 wt.% of a lyotropic polysaccharide and (B) 20-45 wt.% of a thermally consolidatable polymer; the dope thus prepared comprises two phases: anisotropic phase and isotropic phase; subsequently, the dope is oriented and the solvent is removed.
