<p>PURPOSE:To separate foreign substances such as marine living things from a cooling water system in an efficient manner by a method wherein a filter in the form of a frustum of a cone, a pull-put pipe and a deflecting plate are provided within a casing having an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe for circulating cooling sea water. CONSTITUTION:The opening degree of the deflecting plate 16' is made to become zero, that is, the plate 16' is held parallel to the axis of the inlet pipe 1'. Sea water entering the casing from the outlet pipe 1' flows downward as it is inflected along the outer surfaces of filter elements 8a-8g. However, contrary to the sea water flowing along the filter elements 8a-8g, a part of the sea water passing through filtering holes 10 flows upward and is discharged from the outlet pipe 2'. In this case, the marine living in the cooling sea water are captured by the filter elements 8a-8g. Next, the deflecting plate 16' is rotated in either one direction and is set at a certain angle with respect to the axis of the inlet pipe 1' whereby the sea water from the inlet pipe 1' changes its flow direction and flows downward in an annular passage along the outer walls of the filter elements 8a-8g.</p> |
