A personal computer video card takes account of a monitor with 2 grey levels as well as a monitor with 4 grey levels, due to the fact that it is capable of providing for operation in the video card in 1-bit level mode as well as in 2-bit level mode. A video output controller 100 generates video output signals depending on the selection of the operation of the video card, namely either the 1-bit level mode, or the 2-bit level mode. In the case of operation of the video card in 1-bit level mode, eight clock pulses are supplied, the input line of the clock pulses being linked to the output line of the clock signal generator 70 by the shorting link, while, in the case of operation of the video card in 2-bit level mode, four clock pulses are supplied, the input line of the clock pulses being linked to the divider by the shorting link. <IMAGE>
