PURPOSE:To flatten the surfaces of oriented films and to obtain uniform images having good responsiveness even in high time-divided driving and having a high display grade by forming the electrode layer of a substrate provided with color filter layers to the thickness larger than the thickness of the electrode layer of a substrate facing this substrate. CONSTITUTION:The color filter layers 12, 13, 14 are subjected to a surface treatment and a flattening film 17 with a protective layer is provided thereon at need; further, a transparent electrode film 15 and the oriented film 16 are laminated in this order thereon and the oriented film 16 is subjected to an orientation treatment, such as rubbing, by which the 1st substrate 1 is completed. On the other hand, the 2nd substrate 2 is formed with various films by vapor deposition, spinner, etc. The electrode layer 25 is formed to about 1,800Angstrom thickness and about 14OMEGA sheet resistance value. The electrode layers 15, 25 are matched in order to maintain the responsiveness and electric field uniformity in the high time division driving. More specifically, the electrode layers are kept at the values suitable for the high time divided driving if the ratio of the thicknesses of the upper and lower electrode layers is specified to 1:1.2 to 2.5. |
