PURPOSE:To prevent the deposition of a vapor-deposited film to the side face of an optical fiber by forming the edge part of the end face of the optical fiber to a shape decreasing in the outside diameter thereof toward the front end and forming the vapor-deposited film on the end face of this optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The edge part 4b around the end face 4a of the optical fiber 4 is worked to a round shape and is thereby formed to the shape decreasing in the outside diameter of this edge part 4b toward the front end. The optical fiber 4 is fixed to a jig 5 and the vapor-deposited film 6 is formed on the end face 4a of the optical fiber 4 formed into such shape. Then, the vapor-deposited film 6 is formed only to this end face 4a and edge part 4b and the deposition of the vapor deposited film 6 to the side face 4c of the optical fiber 4 is obviated. The outside diameter of the optical fiber 4 is, therefore, prevented from increasing and the difficulty in the insertion of the optical fiber 4 to a capillary is obviated as well. |
