<p>PURPOSE: To attain random access for plural magnetic recording cartridges by providing plural slots for storing cartridges in a structural array and an elevator for transferring the cartridges. CONSTITUTION: The device is provided with a magazine 10 for accepting cartridge arrays and with an elevator 11 that enables the cartridge to be accessed and delivered to a tape transferring unit 3. The magazine 10 safely holds each cartridge in each slot 16. The elevator 11 moves vertically along the magazine 10 and selectively accesses one of the cartridges by a control signal from a control processor, transferring the cartridge so accessed from the magazine 10 to the elevator 11, successively feeding the cartridge to the tape transferring unit 3. Then, reversing this process, the elevator returns the accessed cartridge to the original slot 16. Thus, the cartridge can be accessed in arbitrarily selected order.</p> |
