Heat shield, for thermally shielding temp. - sensitive construction parts in internal combustion engines against heat radiation emanating from the engine in operation, comprises metal sheet or metal film coated with heat insulation material. The improvement is that the coating comprises a water-soluble sodium - or potassium silicate and an inorganic filler of mica powder. The coating is stored on to the metal sheet or metal film. Pref. the stored coating has a thickness of 0.05 to 0.2 mm. ADVANTAGE - New shield is economic to produce and has the required techological properties.
