PURPOSE: To easily produce a specified substrate by extending projections of corrugated metal foil sheets to adjoining sheets and stacking a plurality of sheets to be brought into contact therewith and by welding sheets by welding current, in a state that the stack is partitioned with upper and lower sheets. CONSTITUTION: The flat sheet is corrugated with a corrugation cast 36 and each corrugation sheet 16 is prepared by forming a corrugation pattern with vertices 32 between adjacent rows. The projections 38 of these sheets 16 are extended to adjacent sheets and also stacked up to be brought into contact therewith; and the stack 12 is partitioned with upper and lower sheets 16. Next, the stack 12 is connected by sending a pulse of welding current through the stack 12 between the upper and lower sheets 16 and the specified corrugated metal foil substrate for the catalytic converter is obtained by welding the corrugation sheet 16 at a position of projections 38.
