PURPOSE:To interrupt light, to protect a sealing material and to prevent the deterioration of the sealing material caused by the light by providing a light shielding part on a transparent substrate on a light entering side or on transparent substrates on both light entering and existing sides in an optical path from a light source to a screen. CONSTITUTION:In the optical path from the light source to the screen, the light shielding part 13 is provided at a part, where the sealing material 9 is positioned, on the transparent substrate on the light entering side or the transparent substrate 7 on both light entering and exiting sides. For example, by forming a color filter 5 after forming a light shielding film 13 in the peripheral area of the opposed transparent substrate 7 where the sealing material is positioned by Cr vapor deposition, the incident light is intercepted by the light shielding part 13 and the sealing material 9 is protected, then it is prevented from being deteriorated by the projected light. Thus, the sealing material 9 keeps air- tightness and a projection type liquid crystal display device which endures consecutive projection for a long time and is excellent in durability is obtained. |
