Automatic unit for industrial welding robot comprises a lower fixed part and an upper rotatable part. An automatic arresting unit on the upper part serves to stop the rotation of the upper part and simultaneously to conduct electrical current to a ring. The ring is rigidly coupled to the lower part and to effect the conduction of the current has an electric terminal fixed on it. The arresting unit has a pneumatic actuator (50) which operates a push rod (56) coupled to a kinematic lever arrangement comprising a double lever pair (60, 60'). This pair is linked at one end to the push rod (56) and at the other end to pins (64,66). USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for car body welding assemblies, the unit provides precise rotational positioning of movable parts of the robot so that entry to poorly accessible areas is facilitated. This design also limits the weight that has to be carried by the welding arm.
