Disclosed are hybrid protease inhibitors which are non immunogenic and reactive with an active site of a protease in an organism. Also featured are methods for constructing hybrid protease inhibitors which are formed from a nonimmunogenic carrier polypeptide which has an internal portion of its amino acid sequence replaced or expanded with a synthetic peptide which interacts with the active site of a protease and is complementary to the active site of the protease. Methods for inhibiting the reaction between a naturally occurring protein and an active site of a protease for said naturally occurring protein utilizing such a hybrid protease inhibitor are also disclosed. |
