Lipstick etc. manufacture employs a soft wax cartridge element held within a protective housing and used to test different colour nuances. To form a casing layer, the cartridge (10) should be coated in a soln. of sodium alginate of given viscosity, this casing in turn being coated in a calcium chloride soln. to harden the sodium alginate and render it insoluble in water. In the final stage the cartridge is dried. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cosmetics. Wax cartridge coated in sodium alginate and calcium chloride casing can disposably try out colours before final drying and presentation.
