Knee-joint prosthesis with free wheel - allows lower leg to be swung to straight position

The knee-joint prosthesis has the lower leg (2) attached to the upper leg (5) by a free-wheel (1). This has a housing (3) which can be held stationary relative to the upper leg by a brake (6). When the brake is applied the lower leg can be swunng from the bent position to the straight position but it cannot be swung in the reverse direction. An actuator is provided to release the brake (6) by applying a forrce to the lever (4) which is attached to the housing (3). Releasing the brake (6) enables the lower leg to be swung in either direction. USE - Knee-joint prosthesis.
