The lock of a car door is actuated by a slider (11) which is connected to the lock mechanism by the bar (12). The slider (11) is actuated by a crankshaft (16) which has a crankpin (18) which engages stops (13,14) formed on the slider (11). The crankshaft (16) always rotates in the same direction. When the crankpin (15) engages the upper stop (13) the slide is driven to the right until the crankpin (15) moves out of contact with the stop and reaches its mid-position. In this position of the crankpin (15) the slider (11) can be moved manually. Further rotation of the crankshaft (16) brings the crankpin into contact with the lower stop (14) and moves the slider to the left. As the crankshaft (16) continues to rotate a recess (36) in a cam (35) comes into line with a spring loaded locking pin and enables it to be pressed downwards to engage serrations (19) and lock the slider (11).
