Compact electric hand tool

The hand tool has a pistol grip (11) housing the electric drive motor (13) and a relatively short horizontal section (12) incorporating the tool chuck. The drive motor (13) is coupled to the horizontal tool spindle via an intermediate drive (22) allowing the drive torque to be rotated through 90 degrees. Pref. the intermediate drive (22) uses a conical drive spline (15a) at the end of the rotor shaft (15) of the electric motor (13) and a cooperating drive cog with correspondingly angled teeth.
