[Also in Division G2] A film or tape cassette comprises a take-up reel 7 having a base 11, a cylindrical side wall 10 with an open top, and hub 8, the reel being rotatably mounted on spindle 4 of a bottom cover 1, and a fixed spiral tape guide 12 located above the reel 7 and having a tape entrance guide 14 aligned with slit 3 in the cover 1 such that tape fed into the cassette is guided to engage and coil inwardly of the side wall 10, the frictional engagement with this wall causing the reel to rotate. A modification provides for wall 10 to be detachable and cover disc to rest on the coiled tape in the manner of a normal double-flanged reel. Tape may therefore be withdrawn from the inner turn of the coil through guide 14, or from the outer turn with wall 10 removed. A further modification provides an exit slit in wall 2 of cover 1 with a catch to engage the leading end of the tape and a guide to pick up the end for withdrawal. |
