A pin 10 on the microphone 2 connects electrically with socket 9 or 9<SP>1</SP>. Plug 8, which may be screw-threaded, co-operates with socket 7 or 7<SP>1</SP>. The attenuator may be merely a capacitor shunting the microphone capacitance, the pin 5 and socket 9<SP>1</SP> forming an unbroken line. Alternatively, the attenuator is an R.C. circuit printed on a replaceable disc 6 and electrical connection between the socket 9<SP>1</SP> and plug 5 is interrupted by an insulator 11. The attenuator unit 3 may be marked to indicate whether attenuation is variable with, or independent of, frequency. To this end the attenuator housing may be painted, have a coloured plastics cover or be silver-plated, goldplated or anodized. |
