The device has a weapon barrel (7) which is closed at one end with the plasma generated via a plasma chamber (1) and at least 2 pairs of electrodes (11, 11.1, 11.2). The latter are independently coupled to a current supply for initiating independent discharge arcs (15, 15.1, 15.2) at the rear of the projectile (5), with their timing coordinated to obtain an optimum pressure curve. Pref. the )discharge arcs are provided by 3 pairs of independent electrodes (11, 11.1, 11.2), with associated current circuits (12, 12.1, 12.2) ensuring successive detonation of the respective arcs. The detonation delay (3) is pref coupled to an acceleration sensor (2) detecting the reaction force on the plasma chamber (1). ADVANTAGE - Ensures uniform acceleration of projectile.
