PURPOSE:To make it unnecessary to connect a signal control line for informing a physical state and to reduce cost by connecting a packet receiving line to a packet receiving circuit when data length is n bytes or more (n is a positive integer and the minimum number of bytes of packet data), and when the data length is (n-1) bytes or less, connecting the packet receiving line to a control data receiving circuit. CONSTITUTION:Time-divided and multiplexed packet data and control data are received from the packet receiving line, a start flag and an end flag are detected by a flag detector 4 and the data length between the start and end flags is counted by a data length counter 5 to detect that the count data are more than n bytes or less than (n-1) bytes. A switch 6 connects the packet receiving line to the control data receiving circuit 8 when the data length is less than (n-1) bytes, and when the data is more than n bytes, i.e., the number of bits exceeds (n-1) bytes, connects the packet receiving line to the packet data receiving circuit 7. Since the signal control line is made unnecessary, the cost of transmission can be reduced.
