<p>A bearing assembly for supporting a shaft in a housing includes opposed first and second single row tapered roller bearings (24, 26) mounted in axial alignments, the outer race (70) of the second bearing (26) having an integral axial extension (82) which projects toward and abuts the nearer end face of the outer race (44) of the first bearing (24). The two inner races (30, 60) are separated by a spacer (28) and are clamped between two radial abutments (4, 8) on the shaft. The outer race (70) of the second bearing is clamped with respect to the houseing (C) such that it is incapable of shifting relative to the housing. This secures the entire bearing assembly in the housing.</p> |
