PURPOSE:To improve the ratio of the contrast between before and after irradiation of recording laser beams and to improve the C/N in reproducing information by providing a recording layer containing Te, Ge and a specific amount of Cr. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording medium 10 is comprised of a substrate 3, a recording layer 2 formed on the surface of the substrate 3, and a protective layer 1 formed on the surface of the recording layer 2. The recording layer 2 is a thin film of an alloy containing at least Te, Ge and Cr. More specifically, the recording layer 2 is a thin film of Te-Ge-Cr alloy or an alloy containing Te-Ge-Cr and an element of a low melting point other than Te or the other components. Since the recording layer contains Ge and a specific amount of Cr in addition to Te, the crystallization temperature of the recording layer becomes high, thereby improving the anti-oxidation and durability of the optical recording body. The amount of Cr contained in the recording layer 2 is 1-30 atomic % to the total number of atoms in the recording layer. Moreover, the thickness (d) of the recording layer 2 is 50-10000Angstrom . |
