PURPOSE:To produce the subject compounds useful as intermediates for medicines, etc., in high conversion rate and selectivity by increasing a reaction pressure to a specific value or above in reacting a cyclic ether with ammonia or a primary amine in the vapor phase in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A cyclic ether is reacted with ammonia or a primary amine in the vapor phase to afford cyclic alkyleneimines. In the process, the reaction is carried out under a reaction pressure of >=0.5kg/cm<2>G, preferably within the range of 0.5-50kg/cm<2>G, especially 2-15kg/cm<2>G expressed in terms of the total pressure of the respective partial pressures of the reaction raw materials and reaction product. The above-mentioned method can be especially preferably used for producing pyrrolidine or N-alkylpyrrolidines from tetrahydrofuran and ammonia or the primary amine. The resultant product is useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines, insecticides, rubber vulcanization accelerators, etc. |
