1,151,560. Polyethylene urea. SALZGITTER CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 25 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 43452/67. Heading C3R. Polyethylene urea is prepared by heating ethylene urea in the presence of ethylene diamine. The ethylene urea may be prepared in situ by reacting ethylene diamine with carbonoxysulphide. The reaction may be carried out by (a) reacting ethylenediamine and COS, in approximately equal quantities, in chlorobenzene or p-chloroxylene, (b) reacting ethylene diamine and COS without a solvent at 117‹ to 150‹ C. or (c) the direct heating of ethylene urea in the presence of ethylene diamine at 130‹ to 250‹ C. Polymerization catalysts such as alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides, tertiary amines, mineral acids, aluminium chloride and boron trifluoride may be added to the reaction mixture. |
