The torque transmission unit comprises a planetary gear P, a free-wheel 28 and a clutch 30, while by the clutch (30) it is possible for a part (20) of the planetary gear P to be coupled with or separated from another part of the planetary gear P or a stationary support part 32, according to choice. The clutch 30 is hydraulically actuatable. The pressure for the hydraulic actuation of the clutch 30 is delivered by a hydraulic pump 36 which is integrated into the torque transmission unit and is independent of the lubricant circuit of the internal combustion engine. The supply from the pump may be controlled in response to signals representing engine speed and acceleration, gearing output speed, time interval and frequency of ratio change.
