PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid transfer article having a well of a uniform size and depth by covering a base material with a ceramic or metal carbide layer, superposing a mask of a discontinuous substance opaque to a beam of radiation of a selected energy level, emitting a laser beam, and forming a pattern of the well for receiving the liquid. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing a liquid transfer article comprises the steps of coating a base material 12 of a steel gravure roll 8, for example, with at least one layer of ceramic and metallic carbide, superposing a detachable mask material 2 of a discontinuous substance 6 opaque to a beam of a radiation to be used thereon, then emitting a laser beam of the radiation, generating a pattern 7 of a well for receiving liquid to the coating surface 5 not covered with a discontinuous mask material, and removing the mask material from the coating article. In this case, as the mask material, a two-layer film 2 of a first layer 4 substantially opaque to the beam of the radiation and the substance 6 such as, for example, a laminated sheet of a material such as a copper foil 6 and a polyester film 4 can be used, and a region 5 not covered with the copper 6 decides the pattern 7 on the radiation permeable layer. |
