1305583 Lithium-oxygen cells GULTON INDUSTRIES Inc 28 Jan 1970 [21 March 1969] 4177/70 Heading H1B Room temperature operable lithium-oxygen cells have a non-aqueous electrolyte comprising an inert, aprotic, organic solvent, lithium oxide and an ionizable salt. Preferably the anode comprises a comminuted mixture of Li powder and a permanently conductive material held together on a grid by a binder (see Specification 1,240,901). Solvents specified are morpholine; dioxan; dimethyl-γ-pyrone;γ-butyrolactone; ethylene and propylene carbonates; N-methyl- 2-pyrrolidine; N-ethyl-2-pyrrolidone; dimethyl and diethyl sulphoxide; dimethyl- and diethylformamide; dimethyl- and diethylacetamide; hexamethyl-, hexaethyl- and hexaphenylphosphoramide ; acetonitrile ; benzonitrile ; nitromethane and nitroethane. Salts specified are alkali and alkaline earth metal nitrates, chlorates, perchlorates and chromates, (NH 4 ) 2 Cr 2 O 7 , NH 4 NO 3 , oxonium hydrochlorides sulphonium and phosphonium halides and alkali metal thiocyanates.
