Process and system for high-definition television programme broadcasting

In order to broadcast a high-definition television programme over a channel of smaller capacity than the bandwidth of the signal: on transmission, the image is sub-sampled thus distributing the spatial information over n successive frames (n being an integer greater than 1) and temporal filtering is carried out so as to attenuate the energy in the region near f0/n (f0 being the analysis frame frequency) after high-definition coding and before transmission; and on reception, interpolation filtering and temporal emphasising filtering corresponding to the attenuation are carried out before high-definition decoding. The degree of temporal attenuation can be adapted to the local spatial activity.
