In this gear box, the two pinions of each of the cradles 25P-25G are distributed in at least two series which can be differentiated by their transmission ratio, defining two speed ranges, and are mounted so that they can rotate freely in a tilting device 29P or 29G which, itself mounted so that it can rotate freely in the cradle 25P or 25G about an axis perpendicular to that of pivoting of this cradle, is capable of occupying a released position, in which the pinions no longer mesh with the toothings 2a - 3a, and an engaged position, in which they mesh with these toothings, whereas each tilting device of one series is translationally connected to one of the rings 46P or 46G for operating tilting secured to means for selecting a range of speed, the means being distinct from the means 20 for selecting the speed within the range. <IMAGE>
