A high frequency plasma torch with an enclosure (1) into which plasmagene gases are introduced, a plasma striking device containing an electrode (6) to create an electric arc inside the enclosure, and a high frequency inductor (4) situated below the area where the electric arc is formed. According to the invention, the metallic striking electrode (6) stretches along the interior of the enclosure (1). The wall of the enclosure (1) surrounding the active part of the electrode (6) is made of metal and its interior surface is covered with a layer of an electrically insulating material (5). The electrode (6) is electrically linked to a device generating an electric voltage striking the electric arc between the electrode and the metallic wall of the enclosure. The plasma torch in this invention is of particular use in chemistry.
