In each of two compact bridge networks (7,8) of six controlled semiconductors (1-6,1'-6') the star connection points (11,12; 11',12') on their package terminals are linked together to form a DC voltate connection (16,17). For each direction of current the semiconductors of the positive star network (10,10') of one bridge are fired in sequence together with those of the negative star network (9,9') of the other bridge. ADVANTAGE - With the division of current between half-bridges only half as much energy is lost per unit area of package, and a better heat distribution is achieved over the heat sink.
