Cam shaft for IC engine

The cam shaft comprises a first shaft element, and a second shaft element. The first shaft element is disposed within the second shaft element and is movable relative to it. First cam elements are provided on the first shaft element, the first cam elements including lobe portions. Slots are provided in the second shaft element, through which at least the lobe portions of the first cam elements extend. Second cam elements are provided on the second shaft element. The slots in the second shaft element extend peripherally to a limited angular extent, and only the lobe portions of the first cam elements extend through it. The second shaft element has member providing base circle cam surfaces for the lobe portions of the first cam elements.
