The guillotine for paper or cardboard has a front bench (5) on to which the stack of paper is pushed after being cut, and a rear bench (3) on which it is stacked prior to being cut. Between the two benches (3,5) is an adjustable gap (11) through which the offcuts drop, and a ruler fence (20) is movable within the gap (11) from a rest position to a working position, when it lies on the rear edge (7) of the front table (5). Several air jet nozzles (38) are set at intervals over the length of the ruler (20) below the level of the front bench (5) so that the air streams (39) are directed upwards in the area of the ruler (20) and the front table (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - The air jets support the underside of the cut stack and prevent it drooping over the table end.
