The explosive charge (3) of a hollow charge projectile melts the shaped (conical) liner metal (2) which projects as a molten jet (4) followed by a larger plug (5), derived mainly from the liner outer periphery. The separate jet and plug, a disc or ptate. (6) of explosive is disposed in front of the projectile, and initiated when the leading end of the jet reaches the explosive. When the following plug reaches the burning explosive, it is slowed down, deflected and/or deformed to prevent direct following of the jet. The rear portion of the jet may be similarly affected. ADVANTAGE - Portions of projected metal not reaching a min. velocity are deviated from the stream. Steel plates or other means are used for metal travelling faster than specified.
