The tool has a straight chisel bit (4) at one end to clear out slots in manhole covers. It has a hook-shaped bit (B) at the end to enter the lifting slot of the manhole cover (G). To free and lift a frozen cover the bit (B) is inserted in the lifting slot and the sliding weight (F) is impelled up the shaft (E) to strike the shoulder of the socket piece (C).
