Conveyor belt (I) has a carcass of textile construction (e.g. polyamide, polyester or aramid), which is impregnated right through with a plastic (e.g. PVC) and has a coating on each side; the novelty is that between the solid carcass and each coating layer there is a thin layer of a flexible, homogeneous material (II) with a colour different from both that of the impregnating material and that of the coating material. (II) is an elastomeric or other type of plastic. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention is used esp. for very long conveyor belts, partic. for use in mining. W.r.t. prior-art systems with textile edging and outer coating (usually the same black colour as the "solid" core), (I) can be at least 10% thinner . overall (i.e. more flexible, requiring smaller dia. drive rollers, etc.), and the differently-coloured interlayer gives prior indication of exposure of the core (due to wear or when two sections of belt are being joined).
