Multispeed gear box for vehicle - has packet of positively-lubricated friction plates in starting clutch and rear PTO

The multi-speed gearbox incorporates a starting clutch (26) and several gear trains (7,8) with layshafts. The wide-ratio gear (8) is preceded by the close-ratio one (7), which forms a splitter gear-train. A first layshaft (12) in the latter is axially in line with a driving shaft (39) of the former. A main driving or input shaft (10,11) is parallel to the first layshaft, and can be coupled to a PTO shaft (73). The input shaft (10) extends past the main gear train (8), the PTO shaft being at the rear of the housing (5). The starting clutch (26) is between the layshaft (12) and the driving shaft and coaxial to them. It incorporates a packet of positively oil-cooled friction plates, the oil flow being cut off when it is disengaged. USE/ADVANTAGE - Gearbox e.g. for agricultural tractor. Wide range of use of PTO combined with min. overall length and easy operation.
