The I.C. engine cylinder head has a ball valve (2) controlling the gas flow to and from the combustion chamber. A sealing ring (16), consisting of a support ring (26) and seal (25), is fitted with some plate in a groove (19) of the combustion chamber wall (21). The groove, which faces the ball (3) of the ball valve, is fitted with a spring (36), biasing the sealing ring against the ball. A flexible seal (29), acting between the groove wall and the support ring, seals the latter w.r.t. the groove. ADVANTAGE - Compression losses around the sealing ring are reduced.
