Fixed and movable rollers (10,11) rotate in opposite directions in bearings (13,14; 15,16) whose spacing on tracks (17,18) is continuously measured or sampled by sensors (S1,S2) linked to a controller (36) of the valves (22,27,30,32) feeding oil between a sump (26) and hydraulic cylinders (19,20). The difference between the sensor outputs is compared with predetermined tolerances. When these are exceeded the oil pressure is adjusted to restore parallelism. ADVANTAGE - Parallel guidance of rollers is suited to very high pressures and bearing loadings, and slight misalignments of rollers can be compensated without delay or disturbance of grinding.
