Shaped agglomerates are produced by mixing particulate solid material (such as anthracite) with a minor amount of particulate lignin having a solubility of not more than 2 grams per 100ml; digesting the resulting particulate mix in a fluidising medium predominantly comprising oxygen-free superheated steam, until the fluidised mix attains a homogeneous plastic consistency; and forming shaped agglomerates from the resulting mix. |
