The belt system extends round the body of the user of a sailing boat or surfboard, giving a shock-damping and load-distribution effect between user and mast, while allowing relative movement between user and belt hook. The hook has a slide track (15) at the front with rollers (19, 20). An elastic strip (16-18) fits in the track, its protruding ends being secured to the belt by locking devices, allowing the hook to move from side to side without load on the strip, which is loaded when the hook moves away from the user's body.
