A matrix polymer, for example a polyamide such as nylon-6, has its physical properties modified by a rigid rod polymer, for example a polyazomethine derived from a rigid aromatic diamine and a rigid aromatic dialdehyde. A particularly intimate blend of the polymeric structure is achieved by forming the rigid rod polymer in situ from a solution of its precursor(s) in a liquid precursor of the matrix polymer e.g. molten caprolactam.
