Oriented plastic film is fibrillated by bringing it into contact with a plurality of needles 7 carried on support bars 8, the needles being free to rotate about said support bars and to slide along them, said bars being supported by a pair of spaced apart plates 9 (only one shown) connected by a shaft 10, said shaft being connected to a motor means for rotating the needles at a speed sufficient to generate a centrifugal force which will cause the needles to pierce the film. Specified film materials include 1-olefins and blends and copolymers of 1-olefins with each other and with polyamides, polyesters, polyvinyl alcohol, acrylic polymers, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate and polyvinylidene chloride.</p> |
