PURPOSE:To prepare a resin for paper coating, having excellent waterproofing effect and applicability, by reacting a specific polyamide polyamine with a polyurea polyamide and an amide compound, and reacting the reaction product with epihalohydrin or 1,3-dihalohydrin. CONSTITUTION:A polyalkylene polyamine (e.g. polyethylene polyamine) and/or a polyalkylene polyurea are made to react with a dibasic carboxylic acid (e.g. succinic acid) if necessary in the presence of an amino compound and/or a monobasic carboxylic acid to obtain a reaction product of a polyamide polyamine and/or polyurea amide and an amide compound (e.g. urea) and having a viscosity of <=300cps as 50wt% aqueous solution. The product is made to react in an aqueous solution with an epihalohydrin and/or 1,3-dihalohydrin to afford the objective paper-coating resin having a pH of >=8, cationized degree of <=1.0meq/g, and a viscosity of <=100cps as 30wt% aqueous solution. |
