PURPOSE:To obtain stereospecifically titled compound useful as an intermediate for preparing carbacyclin, by catalytically hydrogenating a (1-alkenyl)-cis-bicylo [3.3.0]octene derivative in the presence of a specific metal carbonyl compound or a complex thereof. CONSTITUTION:A (1-alkenyl)-cis-bicyclo[3.3.0]octene derivative of formula II(R<1> is H or alkyl; R<2> and R<3> are H or protecting groups of OH; R<4> is H, or straight chain, branched chain or cyclic alkyl or alkenyl, etc.; X is CH=CH or CidenticalC) is catalytically hydrogenated in the presence of a metal carbonyl compound of formula I (M is metal element of group VIB; R is pi ligand or phosphine ligand; w is 1 or 2; x is an integer 3-6; y is 0 or 1; z is 0 or an integer 1-3) or a complex thereof, e.g. hexacarbonylchromium, under preferably 50-100atm. hydrogen pressure to afford the aimed cis-bicyclo[3.3.0]octylidene derivative of formula III. |
