PURPOSE:To obtain a modified polyethylene compsn. having improved adhesion and various characteristics, by reacting glycidyl (meth)acrylate with a mixture of polyethylene and an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer to effect grafting. CONSTITUTION:Polyethylene is mixed with an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer to prepare a mixture contg. 5-90wt% said copolymer. Glycidyl (meth)acrylate is reacted with the mixture in such a proportion as to give a graft ratio of 0.05- 10wt% based on the quantity of graft-reaction product, thus obtaining the desired modified polyethylene compsn. Examples of polyethylenes are ethylene homopolymer and copolymers of ethylene with alpha-olefins such as propylene. The compsn. is suitable for use as an adhesive for outdoor covering materials. |
