The present invention relates to an installation and a method for checking mechanical parts or other flat parts, such as sheet metal parts, after performing machining operations. The installation according to the invention comprises a computer-machine 1 suitable for translating the extended plan of the part to be checked 2 into checking instructions, and carrying out the relative programmed displacement of a laser source 3 and of the part to be checked 2 along punched or machined edges of the said part 2, the said part 2 being arranged on a table 4 equipped with two perpendicular horizontal axes X, Y.
