PURPOSE:To assure the situation where all or a most part of an applied current is directed to flow through the interior of a diamond not through a crystal grain boundary by providing a damage layer on the surface and upper portion of the diamond provided on a substrate, and further providing a rare earth element layer or a compound of the former covering said damage layer with said rare earth element layer. CONSTITUTION:A diamond 2 is provided on a substrate such as a semiconductor or a conductor or on a substrate 1 having an insulator surface, and further a damage layer 5 is provided on the upper surface or upper portion of the diamond 2. A rare earth oxide layer 14 for example comprising a rare earth element or a compound of the former is provided covering the damage layer 5 therewith. Further, one or a plurality of electrodes 12, 13 are provided on said layer 14. All or most part of an applied current is directed to flow through the interior of the diamond and not through a crystal grain boundary. |
