A rubber composition based on polynorbornene is described, in which the latter was vulcanised by means of an effective amount of at least one compound of formula: <IMAGE> in which R1 and R2, which are identical or different, are chosen from CHnX3-n radicals, X being a halogen atom chosen from fluorine, chlorine and bromine and n being an integer ranging from 0 to 3. A description is also given of a thermoplastic composition comprising a mixture of 10 to 90 parts by weight of olefin-based crystalline polymer and of 90 to 10 parts by weight of crosslinked polynorbornene dispersed in the form of particles of small size and a plasticiser in sufficient amount to lower the glass transition temperature of the polynorbornene to the rubber range, the said polynorbornene having been vulcanised as shown. Industrial articles obtained by extrusion, injection moulding or compression moulding of the composition shown.
