The invention relates to a bioavailable complex of alpha -linolenic acid and a phospholipid. This compound preferably corresponds to the following general formula: <IMAGE> in which: R2 is an acyl residue of alpha -linolenic acid, R1 is a saturated or unsaturated acyl residue of a fatty acid having from 14 to 30 carbon atoms; X represents either a hydrogen atom, or a lower alkyl group having from 1 to 5 linear or branched or cyclic carbon atoms, or a tertiary or quaternary amino radical comprising in total a linear or branched or cyclic hydrocarbon chain having from 2 to 30 carbon atoms. This hydrocarbon chain can contain one or more acid, alcohol or phosphate functions or a glycoside residue, especially comprising one or more galactose or rhamnose groups or alternatively an inositol group. This complex displays increased bioavailability, is simple to prepare and is sufficiently stable over time to permit a therapeutic use under the best conditions.
