In a ship fitted with a free surface tank roll stabilizer 10 the method of stabilizing comprises comparing the tank liquid oscillation and the ship roll, and automatically adjusting the tank liquid level until the tank liquid phase lag is within a predetermined range. Phase comparator 20 receives signals from tank liquid oscillation transducer 18 and from ship roll sensor 21, generates signals representing the phase displacement between these two signals received and applies its output to pump control unit 22 which influences pump 16 to fill or drain tank 10 until the tank liquid phase lag is brought near 90 degrees. A transducer 18 which includes differential pressure sensing device 26 is preferred.</p> |
